by April Welch, The Mental Clutter Coach
In reviewing the Tidy Thursday posts over the past year, I realized I've given you a TON of tips. And have yet to explore the DIY side of some of these solutions. This week I thought we'd venture into a few of my favorite summer systems:
Wet Towels:
You'll often find wet beach towels in a variety of locations around my home {read: yard, floors, car} so this summer I plan to combat this with some of the following
I'm installing more hooks in our laundry room ~ and yes, I will ground the next Pipsqueak who makes it all the way to the laundry room and drops their damp belongings on the floor UNDER the hooks
When the kiddos were younger I would advise them to simply drop all wet items in the tub, they're getting older so I've asked them to think a little higher & use the rod as a huge towel bar
Railings
If you have a deck railing you may want to encourage folks of all ages to let the warm sunshine help you out by hanging items out during the post hours of play
Flip Flops ~ Sandals ~ Water Shoes: Oh my!
I agree with anyone who claims dust-bunnies and shoes are distant cousins! It seems no matter how hard anyone tries the shoe "pile" exists everywhere. Give these systems a try:
The Bucket System
Give each person their own bucket, then when looking for the mate they should only be dealing with their own belongings
Shoe Racks
I rarely recommend shoe racks - these are the epitome of user error. Many of us are not wired for the time required when the weather is nice outside {or during any other season for that matter}. However, for anyone insisting this is a system they can maintain, I recommend the vertical solution over the horizontal.
Sun Protection Supplies:
Now more than ever it is critical to protect your precious skin. Ensure you are always prepared:
Travel sized sunblock
Purchase the sunblock that comes with the ability to connect a carabiner and clip it onto your beach bag, key chain, belt loop ~ whichever is more appropriate
Sunglasses
Stow a few extra inexpensive pairs in common areas like the car, your summer bag, the kitchen drawer, your carry-on
First Aid Kits:
There are so many options available for the prepared soul! Consider some of the following
On the go
In the car
For the home
In the boat / camper
If you're looking for some fun re-caps be sure to go back to "How to Battle Summer Clutter" and watch the video I made about The Lifecycle of a Beach Towel in my home.
Till next week, continue working on being organized as this summer get underway and be sure to let me know over on the VolunteerSpot Facebook Page any tips, tricks or systems you've come up with for summer organization!
Keepin it Tidy,
april
