VolunteerSpotlight: Sheri Mergenthal, Knight's Administrator, C.A.S.A, Camarillo, CA
C.A.S.A., Christian Academic Support Association, is a support group and volunteer organization operated by loving homeschool moms and dads. Their vision is to help homeschool families create a God-honoring and dynamic educational experience. Joining C.A.S.A. affords the opportunity to give to others while receiving the support and encouragement so needed in the life of the homeschool family. In addition to providing academic support, C.A.S.A in Camarillo also has a boys basketball team! What a great way for kids to learn about teamwork.
Today, our Volunteer Spotlight shines on Sheri Mergenthal, Knights' Administrator for C.A.S.A in Camarillo, CA. She uses VolunteerSpot's free volunteer scheduling software to coordinate all the parents that keep the basketball team running smoothly.

Please tell us about your organization and your volunteer needs.
C.A.S.A. stands for Christian Academic Support Association. We are a support group and volunteer organization for homeschooling families in the area of Ventura County, California.
How did you get started as a volunteer leader?
The particular part of C.A.S.A. using VolunteerSpot is our sports program. Currently, we have only boys basketball teams, but we hope to find more coaches so we can expand the program in the future. Although we have great coaches and a wonderful athletic director (varsity coach), his administrative skills leave much to be desired! Both of my boys play for the Knights, and because of my friendship with the coach and my desire to see the program succeed, I volunteered to help run the program.
Why did you decide to use VolunteerSpot?
VolunteerSpot was one of our greatest discoveries for the Knights! If I remember correctly, I found it by searching the web. I was so lucky to come across VolunteerSpot...it meets every one of my needs.
1) It was free (practically a necessity for a volunteer-run organization!)
2) It was easy for me, as an administrator, to set up.
3) It is easy for volunteers to use the site.
4) It has even more to offer than I use now. That tells me that I'll be able to stay with it while we grow!
What’s one piece of advice you have for volunteers or their leaders out there?
Hang in there. Whether or not others see or recognize what you do, it DOES make a difference! Volunteering benefits both the cause for which you are working as well as you personally.
