Carissa Rogers of GoodnCrazy.com spills the beans on boys, birthday parties, and balloons and how a moment of forgetfullness led to amazingly creative play.
It was a calm affair; just a few of his friends and a science experiment disguised as a birthday cake (imagine dry ice bubbling up out of a cake shaped like a glass flask!) They love that crap!
When the cake was obliterated, I realized I forgot to blow up any balloons before the party!
What kind of a mom forgets the balloons for a birthday party?
(This one.)
The big surprise?
A bunch of 9 year old boys are HAPPIER with NOT-BLOWN-UP balloons!
Who Knew?

Shara Weiss of MommyPerks.com uses her experience as an educator and a mom to inspire and encourage fun ideas to invent a new way for kids to stay active:
One of the things I have enjoyed most about working at the elementary school, over the last few months, is the PE sessions. Although our kids get PE just once per week the PE teacher uses many of the old games from our youth. We use balloons to toss and chase, hula hoops, jump ropes, square floor scooters (with four wheels) and more. It brings back memories for me of primary school in Australia. Maybe your kiddo can brainstorm a new and fun way to use one of these items during a game.
Here are categories for the new ideas you can come up with, while inventing your game:
New:
- Active indoor (gymnasium, etc.) or outdoor games
- Fitness equipment or training devices
- Exercise equipment
- Football-themed games or activities (for training or playing)
Now…get moving!
