MitoAction is a community of support for those affected by a mitochondrial disease.
MitoAction's mission is to improve quality of life for all who are affected by mitochondrial disorders through support, education and advocacy initiatives. They offer comprehensive, up-to-date, expert resources, information and support at no cost to any patient, family, clinician, educator or member of the community. MitoAction is an advocate and fosters relationships with the scientific, academic, research and business communities in order to create sustainable support for the mission of MitoAction.
Today our spotlight shines on Susan Stover, Events & Development Director for MitoAction, who uses VolunteerSpot to organize and communicate with her volunteers.

Please tell us about your organization and your volunteer needs.
MitoAction is a non-profit 501 c 3 dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by mitochondrial disease; a life threatening disease with no cure that affects the bodies ability to produce energy. We host two annual events a year that require a lot of volunteer participation to make the events successful. Our volunteer responsibilities include everything from event set up, registration and guest check in, assisting with on site activiities including 5K, walk, merchandise, meet & greet, f&b tents and more.
Explain how you use VolunteerSpot to coordinate these volunteers.
We use Volunteer Spot to break up the roles and shifts. We give descriptions of what is needed in each area, the number of volunteers needed and the shift times.
What’s one piece of advice you have for volunteers or their leaders out there?
Your assistance, kindness and smile can be the difference between an attendee having a great experience or a bad one and that is a direct reflection on the organization that you are volunteering for.
Why did you decide to use VolunteerSpot?
Ability to have an online location that easily tracks the volunteers, the roles/shifts and communication with the volunteers.
Anything else you’d like our readers to know about your organization or volunteering?
Our organization like many could not provide the wonderful events we do to the Mito community without the gift of time given by the volunteers and for that we are so grateful.
