Volunteer leader Terese Kell just started using VolunteerSpot this past holiday season and promises this won’t be her last time. Kell now intends to lean on VolunteerSpot for future opportunities that involve working with volunteers at her church and shares her successes.
1. Please tell us about your organization and your volunteer needs.
St. John's Episcopal Church began a Thanksgiving diner 10 years ago and now the event involves other local churches, such as St. Mary's Catholic Church and Father Dyer Methodist Church.
We also rely on the kindness and generosity of the local Breckenridge community - restaurants who donate and cook the food, bakeries who give bread and desserts, and of course all the many volunteers who do everything from baking and donating delicious desserts to working on Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers do everything from greeting guests to carving the turkey to serving food and cleaning up after.
2. Explain how you use VolunteerSpot to coordinate these volunteers.
VolunteerSpot helped us early on to let volunteers know what we needed to make the dinner a success - all the required and available positions and time slots. Then, I could easily keep track of who was signing up for what, if I needed to recruit more volunteers, make changes as needed, and send out messages from time to time. Plus, VolunteerSpot sent out reminders to all the volunteers about their upcoming duties on Thanksgiving Day, which was invaluable.
3. Why did you decide to use VolunteerSpot?
A co-worker suggested VolunteerSpot to me. I originally was trying to use a different program, but VolunteerSpot’s website turned out to be better, easier and more aligned with our organization, so I'm very glad we used VolunteerSpot!
4. What’s one piece of advice you have for volunteers or their leaders out there?
Know that there are websites, such as VolunteerSpot out there, which will make your organizing and scheduling job a thousand times easier!
